When I’m driving up a steep hill,
Sometimes I think my car won’t make it.
But when it comes to righteous livin’,
God gives me all the power I need.
When I’m trying to move the sofa,
Sometimes I find I cannot budge it.
But when it comes to righteous livin’,
God gives me all the strength I need.
When I get up in the night time,
Sometimes I trip on things I can’t see.
But when it comes to righteous livin’,
God gives me all the light I need.
When I go to spend my money,
Sometimes I find it doesn’t buy much.
But when it comes to righteous livin’,
God gives me all the worth I need.
When I buy some special gadget,
Sometimes it’s not all I was promised.
But when it comes to righteous livin’,
God gives me all the truth I need.
When I’m looking at a newscast,
Sometimes the violence jumps right at me.
But when it comes to righteous livin’,
God gives me all the peace I need.
When I’m driving up a steep hill,
Sometimes I think my car won’t make it.
But when it comes to righteous livin’,
God gives me all the power I need.
About this Song:
Randy Trail, a missionary friend from years past, didn’t just play guitar. He bought, sold, and swapped them. He used to tickle me saying, “I’ll never sell this one, though.” And two months later he would.
But Randy had one little Fender guitar amplifier he was especially fond of. Said he, “I’ll never get rid of this amp. It has all the power I’ll ever need.”
I don’t know if he still owns that amp or not–I haven’t seen Randy in many years–but his words inspired this song. It’s somewhat bluesy in style, and the words are more repetitive than I’ve indicated above. It’s a FUN song to sing and play. You can find a recording of it here. Hopefully you can listen on equipment with good bass. A free PDF lead sheet is available here.
More than fun, though. I think the lyrics say so much about some of the special gifts God gives His children: power, strength, light, worth, truth, and peace.
If your life is lacking any of these things, let me assure you that God is waiting for you to turn to Him, place your life in His hands, and ask for what you need.
I write Christian novels as well as songs. The two most recent ones are shown below and their pictures are links to the Amazon pages. The eighteen-book picture is a link to my Amazon Author Page.
