Don’t Try to Walk on the Water

Don’t try to walk on the water (3x)
Till you walk by faith on land.

Don’t try to move any mountains (3x)
Till you move by God’s heartbeat.

Don’t try to preach any sermons (3x)
Till your life tells God’s whole truth.

Don’t try to love everybody (3x)
Till you know who lives next door.

About This Song:
What Christian wouldn’t love to have the influence on other people that somebody like Billy Graham had? But that’s not the goal God set for anyone but Dr. Graham himself.

No matter how simple this song may appear, don’t let its truth escape you: How can we attempt to accomplish big things for God until we’ve conquered some of the seemingly smaller ones?

Walking by faith, moving in coordination with God’s leading (“by God’s heartbeat”), living a life that gives an accurate portrait of our merciful God, and learning to love the people we already know–these are all major goals to strive for.

Free lead sheets (lyrics, tune, and chords) are available for many of my songs. Click on the Lead Sheets tab at the top of this page to see whether one is available for this song. Videos for many of my songs, some recorded at home and some at our church’s nursing home ministry, can be accessed at my website,, under the Listen tab.

Look for me again next Wednesday. Better still, subscribe to receive these weekly posts by email.

Best regards,
